More Than 1,000 Runners Set to “Run For Beerâ€

The inaugural Famous Canadian Beer Run & Festival is an official Toronto Beer Week (September 16-24) event taking place at Ontario Place Sept 18
Runners, joggers and walkers of all experience levels will unite in their love of beer as they celebrate the fall season and the start of Oktoberfest festivities around the world. The 5-kilometre run will take participants on a meandering tour of Ontario Place, crossing the finish line directly into the craft beer and food festival. Top brewers from Ontario including High Park Brewery, Sawdust City Brewing Co, Great Lakes Brewery and Beau’s will showcase their best fall ales, and Shiny Apple Cider and soCIAL LITE Vodka will also be available for non beer drinkers. Foodies will not be disappointed - Heirloom, one of the city’s most sought-after food trucks, will be on hand showcasing their Instagram-worthy “farm to truck” fare for hungry runners, with Steel Cut Coffee serving up breakfast before the run. Non runners are also invited to participate in the festival with a special pass giving them access to the full Festival and on-site entertainment.
As part of a unique collaboration with in/future: a transformative art experience, runners will be able to preview multiple art installations along the course, part of a celebration of multidisciplinary contemporary art and music. Participants will have early access to the course-side installations, with the opportunity to purchase discounted tickets to enjoy the full scope of exhibits later in the day.
Healthy running lifestyles may seem incompatible with beer, but that’s the latest craze that’s sweeping the endurance sports market in Canada. From Canadian domination at the Beer Mile World Classic to running clubs designed specifically for beer runners, there has never been a better time to be a running beer lover! Toronto is Ground Zero for the trend, headquarters of RunTOBeer, Canada’s largest beer-themed running club with more than 2,000 members. In the 2016 Canadian Race Director Survey (conducted this spring by Get Out There Magazine), the trend of MOB (mud, obstacle, beer) runs continued to show strong growth, with many event directors seeing these events as a pathway for new runners to move into more traditional running events (like the Scotiabank Toronto Waterfront Marathon) and for experienced runners to enjoy an alternative to the traditional.
The Famous Canadian Beer Run joins City Chase, Mud Hero and other successful properties under the InFluence Marketing banner. “With vibrant food and craft beer scenes, Toronto couldn’t be a better place to kick off the inaugural Famous Canadian Beer Run. We already know that Toronto runners are keen participants in organized events like this one, and with the addition of a post-race festival we expect this event to become a not-to-be-missed staple on the fall running calendar,” says InFluence Marketing President Chris Wilson.
Registration for the event is now open. Participants can run or walk the 5K, and non-participating friends and family can join in on the post race festivities by purchasing a Festival-Only pass.
