Cycling

Sept 29 -- EV's Grand Prix of Cyclocross (Coquitlam, BC)

Organized by Team Escape Velocity Cycling Club, the

race mixes Euro-style and West Coast elements: grassy

knolls, pavement and barriers with beach volleyball

courts, BMX track and singletrack. This year's venue is

Coquitlam Town Centre Park.                 

 

Multisport

Sept 29 -- Race the Rockies (Edmonton, AB)

Adventure racers will test their navigation skills in the

disciplines of paddling, biking, ropes, some bushwacking

and maybe some whitewater swimming. They'll cover

about 80 km in 18 hours.

 

Water Sports

Sept 29-30 -- Day of the Longboat (Vancouver, BC)

North America's biggest Voyageur Canoe race will draw

250 teams to race in a 2 km course at Jericho Sailing

Centre. The race involves a rousing act of boat-leaping,

gong-ringing and more. It's sponsored by UBC REC.             

 

Outdoor Recreation

Sept 30 -- Take a Hike Adventure Series (Vancouver)

Hikers of all ages and levels will hit Grouse Mountain

to support Take a Hike Foundation and part two of its

Adventure Series. Each year, 40 at-risk high school kids

join the alternative education program Take a Hike.

They become engaged in outdoor learning, academics,

counselling and volunteering. Participating hikers have

the choice of a 10K or 5K guided route at Grouse.

BC Bike Race

Online registration is now open for BC Bike Race 2008

(set for June 28 to July 4). 400 spots are available. The

world's longest singletrack mountain bike event is a

seven-day, epic stage race. It starts in Victoria, with

stages including Shawnigan Lake, Lake Cowichan,

Port Alberni, Cumberland, Sechelt, Squamish and finally

Ripzone/Powder Room at the Olympics

The Canadian action sport brands Ripzone and Powder

Room have announced that they will be the official

outerwear supplier of the Canadian National Snowboard

Team at the 2010 Winter Olympics. In a four-year

agreement, the company will outfit the National Team,

the 2009 World Championship Team and Junior World

Championship Team. Since 1993, Ripzone/Powder

Room have offered performance apparel, footwear and

accessories in 20 countries around the world.
