Banff avalanche kills Canmore family doctor Laura Kosakoski

The wife of mountain running legend Adam Campbell was airlifted to hospital

According to multiple media reports, 32-year-old family doctor Laura Kosakoski has been killed by an avalanche.

Kosakoski is well-known to the endurance running community in Canada as the wife of ultra-marathoner Adam Campbell.

According to Avalanche Canada, the party of three including Kosakoski, Campbell and a friend, were skiing on a south-facing slope on Mt Hector in Banff National Park when a slab avalanche approximately 80 metres wide was triggered.

The report stated that Kosakoski was extricated by companion rescue and airlifted to hospital where she later succumbed to her injuries and died the following day.

"Laura was the most incredible woman — loving, compassionate, curious, passionate and absolutely beautiful. Laura has been my rock, and has shown me that true beauty, love and joy can be found in even the most trying of circumstances," Campbell said, in a written statement released by Arc’Teryx, one of the well-known athlete’s sponsors.

Campbell is, of course, well-known to us here at Get Out There and to many in the endurance running community across the country and around the world. We express our deepest condolences to him and to the family and friends of his beloved partner.
