Energy GORP Recipe

OK, so we can’t take all the credit for this one. We stole this recipe from GOT reader Erin Hogan after consuming copious amounts of the stuff during a six-day adventure race in the backcountry of Maine and New Hampshire. Both racers and support crew were unanimous in declaring this the best GORP we’d ever tasted. Here we give you the basic recipe with our favourite treat add-ins. Modify to suit your own taste buds.

1 cup low-fat granola clusters

1/2 cup large-flake oatmeal

1/2 golden raisins

½ cup raw almonds or almond slivers

½ cup chocolate chips

1/4 cup unsweetened shredded coconut

handful flax seeds

handful sunflower seeds

handful salted peanuts

handful Swedish or juice berries

If you’re in a real rush, scrap everything but the granola clusters and Swedish berries, and throw in a bag of fruit and nut trail mix. We’ve also tried this with the addition of Peanut M&M’s – yummy!

Instructions: Um…mix.

Makes: Lots

Store it: In the fridge in a reusable Tupperware container or in single-serve sandwich baggies to grab as you head out the door.

Try it: Over low-fat vanilla yogurt as a yummy post-work
