Stop, Sip, and Sample at One of These 5 Races for Wine Lovers

Sample the nation’s best vino at one of these fun road races featuring mid- and post-race wine sampling

While most of us runners may have imbibed in a little celebratory vino after running a race, few of us have downed an ounce or two while out on the course... especially since an electrolyte drink mix or water is the preferred method of mid-race hydration. Unless, of course, you sign up to race one of these fun road races featuring mid- and post-race wine sampling.

Half Corked Marathon Weekend
Sample some of British Columbia’s finest wines and local cuisine as you run from winery to winery along country roads in Oliver, BC at the end of May during the Half Corked Marathon. Although this year’s event (which is actually only 18 km to allow time to stop, sip and sample at the 10-12 wineries along the course) is already sold out, you can start planning for next year by checking out the event’s website and signing up for their newsletter to be notified about when the ticket lottery opens for 2017.

Kelowna Wine Country Half Marathon
The scenic and fast Kelowna Wine Country Half Marathon course starts at the Vibrant Vine Winery before descending down country roads to Lake Okanagan, with incredible views and numerous orchards and wineries along the way. Once you reach the finish line in Waterfront Park, you can celebrate your accomplishment by sampling the region’s finest wines and locally grown foods. This year’s race, held in Kelowna, BC, is set for September 4, 2016.

Wine & Dash
Runners and walkers get to visit (and sample) up to four local vineyards during the second annual Wine & Dash in Brigadoon, NS, which will be held this year on June 12. Participants can choose to run or walk a 5K, 10K or 15K route at this fun run, which is also a fundraiser for local charities. Fun swag kits, a technical race shirt and a special finish line wine treat will be provided to all participants (who are of legal drinking age only, of course).

Campbell Valley Wine Run
This 15K wine run takes participants along the scenic trails of Campbell Valley in Langley, BC, stopping at four local wineries along the way for samples. For obvious reasons, this local fun run is not timed to allow for maximum sampling and social time. Costumes are encouraged, as well as a hanging out at the High Point Equestrian Club market after the race for more sampling and shopping. A two-person relay and 5K walk/jog route is also available. This year’s race date for the Campbell Valley Wine Run is still to be determined.

Fredericton Wine Run
Choose to run either the 5K or 5 mile distance at the Fredericton Wine Run in Fredericton, NB on July 31, 2016 before heading to BrewBakers on King Street after the run for an afternoon of wine tasting. All runners of legal drinking age get a custom wine glass, custom running bib, light food and nine 2 oz. samples of wine with their race registration. Sign up as a team to double your fun, with prizes given to those who are the best dressed, produce the fastest times, and earn the most fundraising dollars.
