Ski Jump to Check in at Düsseldorf International Airport

A real ski jump, real snow, and snowboarding stars and stunts inside the terminal of Düsseldorf International Airport. A world premier in the history of airports and winter sports.

Düsseldorf, Germany - The check-in hall at Düsseldorf International Airport (DUS) will house the world’s first airport indoor ski jump as part of the 7th annual TravelSuperMart from February 6-7, 2010 -- one week before the start of the Winter Olympics in Vancouver. Former British Olympic ski jumper Eddie "the Eagle" Edwards is scheduled to open the event.

Snowboarders and ski-freestylers will perform stunts and jumps of up to 30 feet on real snow on the 130-feet long slope right in the departure area of the airport terminal. With an expected audience of 80,000 of both passengers and visitors, Germany’s third largest airport will become a giant winter sports and event location.

In addition to the ski jump, an entertainment program will be offered, including other sports demos, comedy and musical performances, free airport flights and tours, related animal shows (e.g., customs dog demonstrations) and much more. Performers include soul-chanteuse Cassandra Steen, artists from the “Buddy Holly Musical,” and moderator and former swimming champion Christian Keller.

The entertainment is the backdrop for the TravelSuperMart, a highly successful travel and tourism consumer show with exhibits by airlines, tour and cruise operators, destinations and bureaus.

The event is free and open on both days from 11:00 am – 6:00 pm.
