At the 2012 annual general meeting of Toronto Bicycling Network (TBN) held November 17 in Toronto, The Board of Directors introduced Arlene Smith as the new president of TBN. Arlene will succeed Brian Mclean, who has served as president for the past five years, the longest tenure of any TBN president.

Brian led the club through a dynamic period of change for cyclists in Toronto. The city has seen strong growth in cycling as an increasing number of people are choosing this healthy and environmentally friendly way of getting around the city. Recreational cycling has been on the rise as well.

Arlene Smith – the first female president of TBN - has been a member of the club for more than 20 years and has been an active volunteer throughout her tenure. For three years she was Director of Cyclon, TBN’s premier cycling event. Working with a dedicated group of volunteers, Arlene significantly increased attendance and for many, Cyclon is now the most highly anticipated event of the season.

“I would like to thank Brian Mclean for his years of service,” said Arlene. “The club has benefited greatly from all his hard work and I hope to be able to build on his achievements. TBN is well-positioned to offer an exciting agenda with more and varied ride options and a greater number of overnight cycling trips.”
